Dave Takes A Vacation...

One of the highlights of vacation was cycling in the ride for MS in McCall, Idaho! We rode 75 miles the first day and 50 miles the second. I doubt I would have done as well without the help of my friends at The Bike Gallery This was taken minutes before I started the ride on my Trek Madone!

We spent HOURS on the beach, on the boat, on the tube, and in the water! Living a MUCH healthier life these days has opened so many doors to outdoor FUN!

It was the night before vacation was officially over... I had finished my 125 mile bike ride this day... do I LOOK tired? Okay, maybe a little! I could have never done it without the help of my personal health coaches, Lisa and Jaime! Life 121 lighter sure feels GREAT!

So for the first time in TWENTY YEARS I weigh in right at 200 pounds. The promise I made to my wife, Shauna, last March has been fulfilled... to give back to her the guy she married in 1990. I'm now wearing jeans with a 34" waist!

Am I done? Nope... you see even the guy Shauna married almost 20 years ago could have been healthier too... so now we're doing something about that! I have a little farther to go so I can be at a healthy BMI (body mass index). I know my 32" Levi's will fit great when I get there!

I borrowed these adorable children to feel what 104 pounds feels like now that I've LOST 104 POUNDS! WOW! I'm amazed I didn't blow out a knee or ankle when I had all that extra weight on me!

If I had told you six months ago that I would lose over 100 pounds over the next 6 months would you have believed me? I know I wouldn't have believed me! 100 POUNDS!

It's pretty darn exciting when you set a goal and then realize that goal! That's what happened for me this weekend! Sunday morning my scale reported back to me that I've officially lost 100 pounds!!! My next goal is drop below the 200 pound mark (which thankfully isn't TOO far away) and then the ultimate goal to get in to a pair of Levi's with a 32 inch waist! Yesterday evening I stopped at the store on the way home and bought a pair of 34 inch Levi's knowing they wouldn't fit yet. To my surprise, I was actually able to button them! Yes, they were snug but as the coming weeks go by, they'll be fun to see how they loosen up as I continue to lose more weight.

Today I got on the scale again and lost MORE! My official total pounds lost is 98! Lost, and never to be found again. Something I've done through this whole process of weight loss is to get rid of EVERYTHING that doesn't fit anymore, and committed to not buy anything again that's bigger than what I'm currently wearing. It seems I've been making monthly trips to give away clothes, and that is awesome!

It's been fun to inspire others to get healthy... my sweet wife, Shauna, decided to lose 15 pounds and after less than 2 months, she's lost 16!

This past Saturday I got to realize yet ANOTHER benefit of losing this weight (by the way, I've lost a total of 96 pounds now!!!)... I got to go go-cart racing! There is a weight limit on these carts that 5 months ago I wouldn't have met. So now that I'm getting healthy and losing this weight I'm finding new freedom I didn't have before! Going bungee jumping, going on a zip line, and now go-cart racing!

One other fun story from the weekend... my wife Shauna bought me a new pair of pants because she got such a great deal on them on sale. But I had to take them back to the store for a different pair... because they were TOO BIG! I'm now able to wear pants with a 36" waist! Something I haven't been able to do for over 15 years!

HOW FRUSTRATING!!!

I was running a little late this morning. I needed to be at a church in St. John's to speak to a group of kids for their Vacation Bible School that wraps up today. I was trying to find the right thing to wear keeping in mind that I have dinner date with my wife Shauna tonight right after work. This whole thing of my clothes getting TOO BIG is becoming more and more of an issue! LOL! First I couldn't find a shirt small enough to fit, then when I went to put on a nice belt, it was ALSO too big! So it's jeans and a nice button down shirt with nice shoes today instead of the slacks and dressier shirt that I'd hoped for. Just 5 months ago I had a similar problem, but it was going the other way! All my clothes were getting too small! I knew I needed to do something about it, and I did. I got hooked up with Lisa & Jaime Castro who are now my personal certified health coaches! Now I'm 95 pounds lighter since I first met them and I'm so thankful! I'm looking and feeling better than ever!

Back from vacation and I'm here to tell you that EVEN ON VACATION yours truly lost another FIVE POUNDS! That puts my total weight loss at 93 pounds. NINETY-THREE!!! Holy COW! Well, a small cow at any rate. We had a blast on vacation visiting family and friends which means there's always quite a bit of time around food, but there were always healthy choices for us to have. I say "US" because my wife joined me on the journey to optimal health and fitness as well! As she witnessed my success she decided she wanted to lose that final 15 pounds or so. She's already lost 13 of them! It's exciting to journey with her and support and encourage each other.

Last night I started at the right side of my closet and moved right to left removing even MORE clothes that don't fit me anymore. City Team Ministries is about to get another TRUNK FULL of clothes! The best part last night was when I got all the way to the end of the left side of my closet. I found a suit I purchased back in 1990... AND IT FIT! I don't think I've been able to put it on since 1993!!! Not that its much in style anymore, but you should have seen the smile on my face when the pants fit and the jacket buttoned! WOO HOO!!! Thanks Lisa and Jaime!

Lovin' V A C A T I O N !

We rolled in to Idaho at 1:30am this morning after a long day of travel, but now there's nothing left to do but play and relax for a good long while! Tonight it's a baseball game with Dad. I've had people ask me already what it was like for my family to see me for the first time after losing all the weight... They were amazed and thrilled for my success. Friday morning before leaving I got on the scale to see that I made it to a total loss of 90 pounds! It was nice to round off that number before heading out! Today Shauna and I were at the store gathing items for a big reunion BBQ party we're throwing tomorrow and we found ourselves walking down the isle where all the dog food is. I picked up a 40 pound bag of dog food realizing that wasn't even quite HALF the weight I've lost... then I passed it to Shauna for her to hold. Her jaw hit the floor feeling 40 pounds in her arms. NO WONDER I FEEL SO MUCH BETTER!

So am I sticking to the plan? Even on VACATION? You better believe it, because it's SO easy to do! Cravings? Sure, I get those from time to time, but I'm focused on the goal... the win... a healthy life and that right now to me is more important than the junk I used to eat!

As I went through email today I found one convicting me of "Blog Neglect"! The assumption was that if I suddenly stopped blogging for a week, it must mean my weight loss stopped as well... I'm here to tell you that's NOT the case! I'm now officially down 88 pounds and STILL losing! As we prepare for vacation I'm hopeful to arrive at our destination at 90 pounds down! Next week I'll be seeing alot of people I haven't seen since before I started on my journey with my health coaches at 4Generations4Health, Lisa and Jaime Castro... I know we'll be spending alot of time at the pool and at a gigantic water park but this time I know I'll be feeling alot better about how I look, not to mention how much better I'm feeling because of my health!

Month by month I've been learning and putting to practice the habits of health that will give me the tools and support to keep this weight off for the rest of my life. Thats the great thing about this program is all the support during AND AFTER your journey to a healthy weight! Doctor Anderson is the man who began the organization and is on a personal mission to help America get healthy! I just saw on the news last night that the CDC released a report stating that medical costs of treating obesity-related diseases may have soared as high as $147 billion in 2008, doubling over a decade, it is clear that the time for intervention is now. Yup, a night for Columbia County tomorrow night! More on that in a second...

This weekend, my family and I went to Mt. Hood Adventure Park at SkiBowl! What a blast! But what was really fun for me was now that I'm not dragging around an extra 80+ pounds around with me, I was able to keep up with everyone! Did you know that they weigh you before they let you bungee jump or ride the zip line? Yup... I guess it stands to reason that they don't want to underestimate your weight and snap the line, right? For the first time I wasn't embarrassed to SHOW someone what I weighed! :-) By the way, YES, I did the bungee jump AND rode the zip line! First time for me on both! Living healthy is allowing me to do things I wouldn't have done 4 months ago!

A Look Back...

WOW! This video was shot about a month before I got started on "Take Shape For Life" with my personal certified health coaches, Lisa and Jaime Castro! Since this video was shot I've lost just over 78 pounds! Oh, and I started the program in mid March so all that weight was lost in about 3 1/2 months! Boy do I feel BETTER! I recently came across an old drivers license that was issued in June of 1992 and I now weigh what I did back THEN! But I still need to lose more and so I continue on my road to health!

This 4th of July weekend was a FUN one at our house... I hope you had a fantastic celebration as well. We were outside alot of the weekend visiting with friends and having a big 4th of July BBQ. For the last number of years we, along with our neighbors, pull the bbq's from the backyard to the front yard and cook together. Its always a fun time of fun and fellowship! And even while on my weight loss program and being on my road to healthy living I still had alot to eat from the bbq! And when it was all over, I'd lost MORE weight! I'm now officially 75 pounds lighter! YES! And that's just been in the last 3 1/2 months!!! I'm gunna need to steal some pics from my dad's Facebook to show you some shots of me taken a week before I started on this wonderful program. What a DIFFERENCE! New Pics... 73 pounds LESS!

So here's a couple of pictures that show my progress with my certified health coaches, Lisa and Jaime! The first pic was taken this past Saturday while on a father/daughter road trip with my 12 year old, Emily. The second one was taken the day I went to visit our own Kat Taylor right after the birth of her baby Mia back in September 2008. Wow, what a difference 73 pounds makes, huh?

I can't encourage you enough to look into more detail what Lisa and Jaime have to offer. Its affordable and can be life changing! Last Thursday night here at The Fish, we had a couple gals give their own testemonies to their journey of health. One gal had lost over 104 pounds, the other lost 170 pounds! THAT is life changing! The other day my daughter made a discovery and shared it with me... she showed me that before when she would hug me, she could lock the ends of her fingers behind me, but NOW (since I've lost SIXTY-SIX pounds) she can put her arms around me and grab her wrists! How cool is that? She thought was pretty neat... as do I. A couple years ago my wife went to Israel and brought back a really nice ring for me, but now I can't wear it anymore because it won't stay on my finger anymore. The ring is now TOO big! Shauna said, "Bummer, I guess you'll have to send me to Israel to get you a new one!"

Yup, got on the scale again this morning to yet another smaller number on the display! In the last three months I've watched 63 pounds melt away! I've lost inches and inches to the point that if I don't find me a belt soon, I'll be in BIG trouble!

Clothes are GONE!

Last night when I got home, I loaded all my old clothes into my car so I wouldn't forget this morning. On my way to work I stopped in to see all my friends at City Team Ministries and dropped all my old clothes that don't fit me anymore so someone else can get some use out of them. I have no plans to need them ever again!

But before I left for work, I got on the scale (like I do every morning) and saw I'd lost another 2 pounds!!! That brings my total to 62 pounds that I've lost!

To you those of you who wanted to wait and see if this thing I'm doing would work... well, what do you think NOW? I've still got a ways to go so stay tuned for more updates. What's my goal? Well, I really want to see some 32" pants hanging in my closet this year! I figure if I lose another 80 or so pounds, that should put me there. At the rate I'm going, I may very well BE there shortly after the kids head back to school!

What you do after losing 60...

So now that I've lost the first 60 pounds what do I do? Have a bowl of ice cream? NO WAY! GO THROUGH THE CLOSET! After work last night I came home and started to go through my shirts and I found a few shirts that I completely missed out on wearing! They're already TOO BIG! So I pulled out all the old stuff and made a pile that I'm going to give to City Team Ministries this week so someone else can get some use out of them. But here was the OTHER exciting thing... except for about 2 shirts, EVERYTHING in my closet fits me now! I've got a whole new wardrobe! My wife Shauna said with excitement, "Now I can go clothes shopping for you again and know that it will fit!" Go ahead honey, shop!

You know, what is exciting to me... beyond having clothes fit, is that I'm changing my habits. I know that with the help of my health coaches, I can choose to live a healthy lifestyle for the rest of my life. I have three high school graduation ceremonies I need to be here for, three weddings I need to be here for, grandchildren I need to be here for, and a wife to grow OLD with... I've got to be healthy to help make that happen.

TAH-DAH! 60 POUNDS!

YEA!!! I finally hit the 60 pound mark! So how do I feel? Um, in a word... AWESOME! The question I get asked the most is if I have more energy and you bet I do. Just yesterday after church I decided to go for a bike ride, but I wasn't expecting to go and ride a full 12 miles! I felt great all the way through... this is from a guy who would feel winded running up the stairs the 3rd floor here at work before!

Okay, another big question is this... Am I hungry all the time? Nope... this great plan that Lisa and Jaime have me on keeps me eating something every 3 hours or so. Do I have the desire to eat a big slice of pizza... of course! I love that stuff, but that's the stuff that got me where I was 3 months ago, and I don't want to go there. So Lisa and Jaime have helped me to learn how to combat the psycological triggers we all have and I'm able to walk away.

So if you're ready to join me, don't put it off! Feel free to call me OR my health coaches. We can tell you more about this all new lease on life I'm enjoying. Just last night, my wife Shauna said, "It's gunna be nice to have you around longer." Hey look who stopped by the office today! PHIL STACEY! One of the stars from American Idol! I gotta say he's one of the nicest down to earth guys I've met.
One of the guys from record company came along with him... he and I hadn't seen each other for some time so he was suprised to see my weight loss. That's the FUN PART of this part of my weight loss journey, getting to see people I haven't seen for awhile and seeing their reactions! I love it when they ask how I've done so well in such a short amount of time. I get to brag about my health coaches, Lisa and Jaime and 4Generations4Health! They're THE BEST! After The First 55

Yesterday we got to have a visit from a great band called "Mike's Chair". I'm trying to get them to come back this summer to put on a show, but we'll have to wait to find out if we can make it happen. They're a bunch of great guys with awesome hearts for ministry and a desire to help people! As we usually do, we all gather for a picture so here's the one Tim Taylor and I posed for... I also thought it'd be a cool shot to show you as this is what it looks like after I lost 55 pounds!

We're having a get together at my health coaches house tomorrow night (Thursday May 28th) at 7pm. What a great way to start out the weekend! I stepped on the scale and my eyes about popped out! ANOTHER THREE POUNDS GONE! That brings my total to 55 pounds with the help of 4Generations4Health!

Thanks to those who have already called and written to me for more info and for those who've already joined the journey... How about you? Are you thinking this is too good to be true? When I first looked at this program I had similar questions, but after taking a CLOSE LOOK and meeting with and talking to other people who had done this AND KEPT THE WEIGHT OFF FOR YEARS, I knew I needed to jump on! I'm so thankful I did.

My wife, Shauna, called a little while ago to let me know we're invited to a BBQ next door tonight, and I'm excited that I know how and what to eat to keep this weight loss on track.

A NEW MILESTONE!

FIFTY POUNDS! WOO HOO! I'm 50 pounds lighter today than I was just two short months ago! I couldn't believe what I saw, and honestly it was a little hard to see. But I'm so excited NOW to be on the journey I'm on to being healthy with my personal health coaches, Lisa and Jaime. Yup! I did over the weekend! I'm officially at 48 1/2 pounds lighter than March! I can't wait for another pound and a half to drop so I can say I've lost FIFTY pounds!

My Weight Loss Journey...

Okay, so maybe you have a similar story to mine... I've struggled with my weight MOST of my life, except in high school when my metabolism was screamin! I've done "diets" in the past with a little success but never got down to where I really wanted to be. So earlier this year I started researching new ways to lose the weight... all of it... and keep it off. That's when I found the Castro family! Now they're my personal certified health coaches and guiding me and encouraging me towards my goal by teaching me the Habits of Health! Today marks EIGHT WEEKS since they began working with me and I'm THRILLED to report that I'm down 44 pounds! Yeah, thats no misprint! 44 pounds!

Take a look at this pic... this was shot just before Christmas. We were outside with a bunch of neighbors on December 23rd with a fire in the street making s'mores. Its a little hard to see but thats me in the background looking down at my camera. This picture really shocked me to see how far my gut was stickin' out there these days and I realized I really needed to do something

Here's another pic of me bummin' around the Fish offices... yeah, it makes you wonder what we were doing and talking about, but its easy to see I needed to lose it and lose it quick!

So fast forward now to where I am now... this was shot after losing 25 pounds!

I need to get a new pic shot... hopefully today. Um, I also need new pants! LOL! I've hung on to lots of nice shirts over the years and I'm having a blast fitting in to them again!
